Kwara APC Elders Reject Congress Results Over Irregularities

Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have publicly rejected the results of the recent ward and local government congresses held on February 11-12, 2026, due to allegations of widespread irregularities and imposition of party executives. Dele Abiodun, a former chairman of Ekiti Local Government, represented the elders during a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He stated that the congresses violated established guidelines and expressed concerns over the manipulation of the process. The elders condemned violent protests that erupted following the congress outcomes but emphasized the need for democratic principles within the party.

They called for an immediate investigation into the complaints and the reinstatement of exco members who were allegedly removed without justification. Abiodun criticized the imposition of individuals in executive positions and questioned why similar standards were not upheld at the grassroots level.

The elders' grievances highlight a significant internal conflict within the APC regarding the conduct of its local government congresses.
