Kwara Leaders Demand Direct Security Votes for LGs

Community leaders in Kwara State are calling for direct allocation of security votes to local governments to strengthen grassroots responses to rising insecurity. This appeal was made by Abdul Ganiyu Olabisi, a member of the Offa Security Committee, during a press briefing in Abuja.

He highlighted the increasing pressure on local communities to organize self-defense due to recent attacks in Kwara North and Kwara South. Olabisi criticized the current reliance on community funding for security operations, noting that the Offa community spends approximately N10 million monthly on security without government support.

He emphasized that direct allocation of security votes to local governments would improve response times to security incidents and enhance transparency and accountability. Olabisi also expressed concern over the slow progress in establishing a state police force, urging immediate government intervention and funding to bolster community defense against criminal activities.
