Kwara State Orders Demolition of Unsafe Building

The Kwara State Government has mandated the immediate demolition of a dilapidated two-storey building located in the Ok Suna area of Ilorin East Local Government Area, citing safety concerns. The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) sealed the structure after receiving complaints from residents regarding the imminent risk of collapse.

A statement issued on Monday by KWEPA's press secretary, Aliyu Amod, indicated that the enforcement action followed reports from community members prompting the agency to conduct an immediate inspection to avert potential disaster. During the inspection, elderly residents informed KWEPA officials that the property owner had repeatedly ignored warnings about the building's deteriorating condition.

Jide Aina, the General Manager of KWEPA, described the building as a serious threat to public safety and directed the owner to commence demolition immediately. He warned that failure to comply would leave the state government with no choice but to demolish the structure to protect lives and property.
