Kwara Fire Service Controls Blaze in Ilorin Building

On July 20, 2026, at approximately 2:03 PM, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at a storey building located at No. 40 Elesinla Compound off Agbo Oba Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. The incident involved a building with 18 rooms, of which four were affected by the fire.

Firefighting operations commenced swiftly upon arrival, and the fire was successfully brought under control by 2:50 PM, preventing further spread to adjoining properties. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials within the affected section of the building.

Chief Fire Superintendent Alabi Muham advised residents to ensure their buildings meet electrical installation standards and to use surge protection devices to guard against electrical fluctuations. He also urged property owners to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of electrical wiring to avoid overloads and to report fires promptly for swift intervention.
