Kwara State Enhances Border Surveillance Against Migration

The Kwara State Government is set to strengthen its collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and other security agencies to enhance border surveillance and address illegal migration, which is linked to rising insecurity and human trafficking in the state. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman, made this announcement during visits to the Kwara State Commands of the NIS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ilorin.

He expressed concern over the influx of irregular migrants without proper profiling, which he described as a growing security issue. Sulyman, who chairs the Kwara State Task Force on Human Trafficking, stated that while Nigerians have the constitutional right to reside anywhere, migrants must have legitimate reasons for entering the state.

He called for improved data tracking and coordinated efforts among security agencies to tackle these challenges. The Kwara State Coordinator of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour, Olufemi Oyedeji, also urged for decisive action against human trafficking, highlighting the vulnerability of women and girls.
