Labour Party Launches ₦2.8m Essay Competition in Abia

The Labour Party's Abia State chapter has launched a ₦2.8 million essay competition targeting secondary and tertiary institution students. The initiative, announced by Chuk Akamadu at the party's secretariat in Umuahia on Thursday, aims to encourage youth involvement in governance and public policy.

The competition is designed to gather perspectives from young people on the topic "New Abia: Need to Consolidate." It features two categories: secondary school students, with winners receiving ₦500,000 for first place, and ₦300,000 and ₦250,000 for second and third places, respectively; and tertiary institution students, with the first prize set at ₦1 million, followed by ₦500,000 and ₦250,000 for second and third places. Additionally, there will be consolation prizes for outstanding participants outside the top three.

Essays, not exceeding 1,500 words, must be submitted electronically by July 17, with prizes awarded on August 3. Akamadu commended Governor Alex Otti for his administration's achievements over the past three years and emphasized the importance of youth contributions to political development.
