Sowore Granted N200m Bail by Federal High Court

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted activist Omoyele Sowore a fresh bail of N200 million after revoking his earlier bail due to his failure to appear for trial. Justice Muhammad Umar ruled that Sowore must provide two sureties, with one being a traditional ruler and the other owning property within the Federal Capital Territory.
Additionally, Sowore is required to deposit his international passport with the court registrar pending the determination of his case. The court's decision comes after Sowore was accused by the Department of State Services of cybercrime related to social media posts that allegedly referred to President Bola Tinubu as a criminal.
Sowore has pleaded not guilty. His previous bail was revoked on June 16, leading to a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to attend proceedings.
Sowore's lawyer sought to challenge the bench warrant, which was dismissed. The court has adjourned further proceedings until Monday, July 6, when Sowore is expected to open his defense.
