Prof. Kamiki Addresses Nigeria's Development Planning Issues

During the 2026 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Seminar organized by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) in Lokoja, Professor Olurotimi Kamiki from the Federal University of Technology Minna highlighted that lack of strategic planning is Nigeria's biggest development challenge. He argued that the country's issues extend beyond corruption and inadequate resources, attributing the inability to achieve sustainable development to the absence of long-term planning frameworks.

Kamiki lamented the loss of critical development blueprints post-independence, which has hindered national growth. He criticized the inadequate compensation for property owners affected by public infrastructure projects, particularly road construction, calling for government prioritization of citizens' welfare.

He also pointed to the prolonged delay in the Lokoja–Abuja road project as an example of failed implementation. Kamiki urged for inclusive governance and encouraged members of NIESV to continually upgrade their skills to remain effective in their profession.
