Lagos APC Backs Alakija Amid Primary Election Dispute

The Mandat Movement bloc of the Lagos APC, led by Dele Ogunsakin, has publicly backed Mayowa Alakija as the party's candidate for the Oshodi-Isolo constituency in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This endorsement comes amid allegations of irregularities in the primary elections.

The group firmly rejected claims that the primary election, which resulted in Alakija receiving 10,514 votes compared to incumbent Stephen Ogundip's 1,737, was flawed. Alakija's victory was described as significant, with a clear margin across all five wards in the constituency.

The APC's state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, confirmed the legitimacy of the primary process, which was conducted under the party's guidelines. Despite protests from local party members alleging irregularities, the Mandat Movement asserted that the election was free and fair, with proper oversight from party and electoral officials.

The factional disputes within the APC in Oshodi-Isolo were highlighted, with Ogundip's supporters reportedly attempting to create a parallel election process.
