Lagos Launches Online Pre-Marital Course for Faith Leaders

The Lagos State Government has initiated its first online pre-marital course designed for pastors, imams, and faith-based marriage counselors. This program aims to equip these leaders with practical tools to guide couples towards healthier, violence-free marriages.

Announced by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on a Wednesday, the initiative is part of the state's commitment to prevent domestic violence and strengthen family foundations. The course is structured to provide counselors with knowledge that combines faith-based perspectives with modern relationship education, helping couples build strong partnerships rooted in mutual respect and accountability.

The curriculum includes key concepts on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention, recognizing early warning signs of abusive relationships, and providing responsive guidance to couples. The launch event featured representatives from various faith and government stakeholders, including the Anglican Diocese of Lagos and the Nasrul Lahi L Fatih Society.

Mr. Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, the DSVA's Executive Secretary, emphasized the importance of pre-marital counseling in preventing domestic violence and fostering safe community environments.
