Lagos State Resumes Monthly Sanitation on April 25, 2026

The Lagos State government has clarified the modalities for its monthly sanitation exercises, set to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The initiative, announced by Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, will occur every last Saturday of the month from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM.

During this period, movement restrictions will be enforced across the state to allow residents to conduct thorough cleaning of their homes and surroundings. The enforcement team will include officials from the Lagos State Environment Protection Agency and local government sanitation inspectors to ensure compliance.

Defaulters will face sanctions as per the Lagos State Environmental Management Protection Law of 2017. The Lagos Waste Management Authority will also deploy trucks to collect waste during the exercise.

The state government aims to reward the cleanest local government areas and streets to encourage community participation and ownership of the initiative, which follows a previous suspension of the exercise in November 2016 due to legal restrictions.
