Lagos Court Remands Three for Illegal Arms Importation

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Friday Ogazi, ordered the remand of three suspects—Kenneth Mbonu, Kenneth Agwu, and Choima Onuoha—arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service for the alleged unlawful importation of pump-action rifles. The suspects are to be held in the Correctional Centre for 15 days, with the next court appearance scheduled for September 1, 2026, to report on the investigation or for possible arraignment.

The firearms were reportedly concealed in a container marked TEMU 184536/9, which arrived in Nigeria aboard MV VELIKA on July 8, 2026. This development follows an earlier remand order for two other suspects, Ejiogu Godson and Revert Eze, linked to the same firearms consignment.

The Nigeria Customs Service, represented by lawyers David Ereh and Kehinde Bode-Ayeni, filed an ex parte application citing various legal provisions, asserting that the investigation could not be completed within the constitutionally mandated time frame due to the nature of the alleged offences.
