Court Remands Two for Alleged Arms Smuggling in Lagos

On Friday, a Federal High Court in Lagos State, presided over by Justice Friday Ogazi, ordered the remand of two men, Ejiogu Godson and Robert Eze, for 15 days due to their alleged involvement in smuggling high-calibre firearms and ammunition into Nigeria. The remand was requested by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) through its Legal Services Department, represented by Mrs Kehinde Bode-Ayeni.

The application, marked FHC/LAG/CR/601/2026, was supported by a 15-paragraph affidavit from NCS operative N. Akpan, detailing the monitoring of container number TEMU 1845369, which was examined on July 13, 2026, revealing concealed firearms and ammunition.

Godson and Eze allegedly provided information about other individuals involved in forgery and manipulation of Customs records. Justice Ogazi granted the remand order to facilitate ongoing investigations, which may extend beyond the constitutionally prescribed detention period.

The case is adjourned until August 25, 2026, for possible arraignment.
