Lagos CP Warns Taskforce Over Human Rights Violations

Olohundar Moshood Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, issued a warning to the taskforce regarding alleged human rights violations linked to their enforcement activities. This caution followed public complaints and a viral report involving a motorist, Lateef Adeyemo, who was arrested for allegedly driving against traffic.

The incident sparked significant online debate, with accusations directed at the taskforce for acting outside acceptable enforcement standards. During an internal lecture session at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, Jimoh reminded taskforce personnel of the importance of carrying out their duties professionally and respecting citizens' rights.

He stated that the police would review available video footage of the incident, which did not show evidence of physical abuse or degrading treatment. However, he warned that verified cases of misconduct could lead to serious consequences, including the potential disbandment of the taskforce unit.

The case involving Adeyemo was noted to follow established procedures, and he was later granted bail after being remanded for failing to meet bail conditions.
