Lagos State Deploys Swamp Buggy to Clear Ogombo Canal

The Lagos State Government has initiated the deployment of a swamp buggy to clear the Ogombo Canal in the Eti Osa Local Government Area as part of efforts to tackle flooding caused by heavy rainfall recorded in recent days. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, disclosed this information following an inspection of communities affected by flooding in the Eti Osa and Ibeju Lekki Local Government Areas.

The swamp buggy has commenced the clearing and desilting of drainage channels, with the objective of widening and deepening the canal to enhance its drainage capacity. This intervention aims to accelerate the recession of floodwaters affecting the communities.

Wahab has repeatedly urged residents to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal in drainage channels and to cooperate with authorities in maintaining flood control infrastructure, especially during the peak rainy season.
