NAPTIP Investigates Allegations Against Singer Simi

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commenced a full investigation into allegations of child sexual misconduct against Nigerian singer Simi. This decision follows the resurfacing of old tweets that suggest inappropriate behavior linked to a daycare in Lagos.

NAPTIP's Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, announced the investigation on Friday, emphasizing the agency's commitment to thoroughly examine credible reports. Lola Vivour Adeniyi, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) Secretary, also indicated that the Nigerian police would conduct a preliminary investigation into the matter.

The allegations, which reportedly involve a four-year-old boy, have sparked significant public concern. Simi has publicly denied any wrongdoing, claiming the tweets were jokes taken out of context and asserting her long-standing opposition to sexual assault.

NAPTIP has called for anyone with direct knowledge of the allegations to contact the agency to assist in the investigation.
