Firefighters Contain Major Blazes in Agege and Yaba

The Lagos State Fire Rescue Service successfully contained two separate fire outbreaks that occurred overnight in Agege and Yaba, averting a major disaster. The first incident was reported at 10:46 PM on Friday at the Tower Aluminum Village along the Abeokuta Expressway in Dopemu, Agege.

Fire crews from the Ikeja Agege station responded swiftly, bringing the situation under control. The blaze affected multiple offices and stores within a commercial premise covering approximately 2,592 square meters, resulting in significant damage.

However, firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the affected area. The second incident occurred early Sunday at 3:15 AM, engulfing a three-story commercial building on Oyabiyi Street opposite the NLC office in Yaba, which housed several shops storing textile materials.

Fire stations from Somolu, Ilupeju, and Sari Iganmu were promptly deployed to contain the fire and prevent it from extending to nearby buildings. Margaret Adesey, the general agency representative, emphasized the importance of adhering to fire safety measures and urged residents and business owners, especially those dealing with flammable materials, to remain vigilant.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incidents.
