Lagos State Saves N118.32bn, Faces N19.72bn Fire Losses

In 2025, Lagos State reported saving N118.32 billion in property value through its emergency fire response operations, while losses from fire incidents amounted to N19.72 billion. This disclosure was made by Mr.

Olugbenga Oyerind during a press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. The Lagos State Fire Rescue Service handled 1,972 emergency calls related to fire rescue operations, excluding prank calls.

The highest property value saved was recorded in March 2025 at N12.60 billion, while August saw the lowest at N6.78 billion. The state also reported 473 victims rescued alive and 133 fatalities from various incidents.

The Lagos State government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has intensified fire prevention measures and improved safety compliance, issuing 7,997 fire safety certificates to various facilities. The state has invested in firefighting infrastructure, procuring 62 firefighting utility vehicles and commissioning new fire stations to enhance emergency response capabilities.
