Lagos State Prepares for Establishment of State Police

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), led by General Manager Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, has announced that Lagos is fully prepared to establish a state police force. Oyekan highlighted the agency's commitment to evolving a comprehensive security structure that aligns with the state's needs.

He emphasized the importance of proactive measures, utilizing technology and intelligence to enhance safety rather than merely reacting to incidents. This announcement follows Oyekan's recent reappointment for a second five-year term by Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who reaffirmed the agency's commitment to deepening community-based security across the state.

Additionally, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has set up an eight-member committee to implement the state police initiative, which is part of a broader police agenda. The establishment of a state police force is contingent upon the approval of a legal framework.
