Lagos Safety Agency Restructures to Align with State Police

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, under the leadership of General Manager Ifalad Oyekan, is preparing to align itself with the proposed state police framework. Oyekan stated that the agency is evolving to become a proactive security institution capable of integrating with the formal state police system, following the enactment of a legal framework for state policing.

This restructuring is part of the agency's response to modern safety and security demands, adopting technology-driven models. Oyekan's recent reappointment for a second five-year term by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlights the government's commitment to strengthening grassroots security architecture.

The agency aims to anticipate and mitigate security threats rather than merely react to incidents. Additionally, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has inaugurated an eight-member committee to oversee the implementation of the state police framework, which is designed to complement, not replace, the Nigeria Police Force within a coordinated national security framework.
