Lagos Impounds 175 Vehicles for Dealer Plate Violations

The Lagos State Government has impounded 175 vehicles for allegedly violating regulations concerning the use of dealer number plates. This enforcement action was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Tuesday.

The vehicles were seized by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) during ongoing operations aimed at addressing the misuse of dealer number plates by motorists and vehicle dealers. Osiyemi stated that the dealer plates recovered from the impounded vehicles would be confiscated, and the vehicles would undergo further investigation.

He warned motorists against using fake, obscured, or unauthorized registration numbers, indicating that such vehicles would face enforcement actions, including impoundment and prosecution under relevant traffic laws. The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 provides the legal framework for regulating vehicle registration and number plates, making the use of unauthorized plates an offense with prescribed penalties.

Osiyemi reiterated that dealer number plates are intended for specific purposes and should not be used as permanent registration for vehicles.
