LASTMA Officer Stabbed During Traffic Operation in Lagos

On Sunday, during a routine traffic enforcement operation in Abule Egba, Lagos, a LASTMA officer was stabbed with a screwdriver by a commercial bus conductor identified as Mr. Lekan Olasunkanmi.

The incident occurred while a LASTMA patrol team was apprehending a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSR 989 XG, which was causing traffic obstruction along the business market corridor. The LASTMA officer was injured and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, where he reportedly responded positively to treatment.

The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Abattoir police division for further investigation and possible prosecution. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to mistakenly stabbing the officer during the altercation.

LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakar Oki condemned the attack, expressing concern over the growing hostility against traffic management officials and warning that any assault on LASTMA personnel performing their duties will face the full weight of the law.
