LASTMA Officer Stabbed by Bus Conductor in Lagos

During a traffic enforcement operation on Monday, a LASTMA officer was stabbed by a commercial bus conductor identified as Lekan Olasunkanmi. The incident occurred along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, specifically in the Il Epo market corridor, while LASTMA patrol teams were removing traffic obstructions caused by a Volkswagen commercial bus.

The driver resisted enforcement actions, and Olasunkanmi allegedly attacked the officer with a screwdriver, inflicting stab wounds. The injured officer was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Following the attack, Olasunkanmi was arrested by the police and reportedly confessed to mistakenly stabbing the officer during the confrontation. LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakar Oki condemned the growing trend of violence against traffic management personnel and warned that assaults on officers performing their duties would not be tolerated.

He urged motorists and commercial transport operators to comply with traffic regulations to ensure a safer transport system.
