Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Confirms No Pension Arrears

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that the state government is not in arrears regarding pension payments, reaffirming the administration's commitment to the welfare of retirees. During a visit from the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) team, led by Executive Secretary Tolulop Odunaiya, Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the state holds pensioners in high regard and will continue to treat them with dignity and fairness.

He noted that there are no outstanding pension claims for the past three years, and retirees who complete their documentation will begin receiving their benefits shortly after leaving service, typically within two to three months. The governor also mentioned that nearly 200,000 pensioners in the defined benefit scheme nationwide deserve straightforward and fair access to their benefits.

Additionally, he referenced reforms approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2025 aimed at enhancing social protection for senior citizens.
