Lagos State to Resume Monthly Sanitation on April 25, 2026

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will resume on April 25, 2026. This initiative, disclosed by Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, is part of the Lagos State government's efforts to maintain a cleaner environment and reduce flood risks across the state.

Residents are expected to clear drainage channels in front of their homes and businesses during the designated sanitation period. The exercise aims to build a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient Lagos.

The government has emphasized the importance of enforcing relevant regulations and has engaged stakeholders to determine a suitable schedule for the program. The monthly sanitation exercise, traditionally held on the last Saturday of each month from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, was suspended in November 2016 due to legal restrictions on movement during the exercise.

The state continues to implement complementary waste management strategies, including enhanced refuse collection and public education campaigns to mitigate recurring sanitation and flood risks.
