Lagos Police Arrest Five Suspected Cultists in Operation

On June 2026, the Lagos State Police Command conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Ago-Festac Bridge, resulting in the arrest of five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel John (24) and David Godwin (28), were apprehended in a Toyota Camry XLE.

During the operation, police recovered various items, including weapons such as machetes, a battle axe, a knife, and military camouflage, along with 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, and charms associated with cult activities. Following their initial confession, three additional suspects—Samuel Owubokiri (25), Adetona Seyi (20), and David Chigozi (25)—were arrested for allegedly belonging to the same cult group.

Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reaffirmed the command's commitment to intensifying efforts against cultism and violent crime in Lagos, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist the police in preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
