Lagos Police Arrest Two in Counterfeit Drug Operation

The Lagos State Police Command arrested two individuals, Eze Okwudilichukwu, 52, and Chukwudi Mba, 42, suspected of being part of a criminal syndicate involved in the repackaging and trafficking of counterfeit pharmaceutical products. Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai announced the arrests during a press briefing, stating that the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted on credible intelligence.

The suspects were apprehended at a warehouse in Otto, Lagos, where they were allegedly repackaging adulterated drugs for distribution. A follow-up search led to the recovery of a truck loaded with approximately 300 cartons of suspected adulterated Omeprazole, unpackaged Viagra, and other drugs.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate had been operating for over two years, distributing drugs across Nigeria and to Lomé, Togo. Efforts to locate the manufacturing facility in Lagos are ongoing.

The police also reported attempts to compromise the investigation, which were firmly resisted.
