Lagos Police to Enforce Vehicle Number Plate Compliance

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles with obscured or unauthorized number plates, set to commence on June 15, 2026. SP Abimbola Adebisi disclosed that this initiative is part of efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities in the state.

The enforcement is directed by IGP Olatunji Disu, aiming to enhance public safety by preventing criminal elements from concealing their identities. The exercise will be supervised by CP Tijani Fatai and will involve police officers across various divisions to ensure full compliance within their jurisdictions.

Vehicles found in violation will be impounded and subjected to thorough investigation in line with existing laws. The command reassured the public that the enforcement exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding motorists but is a proactive measure to enhance police capacity in identifying vehicles, investigating crimes, and tracking criminal suspects.

Motorists are advised to ensure their vehicles display valid and clearly visible registration number plates and to keep necessary documents readily available for inspection.
