Sanwo-Olu Announces Eko 2026 to Boost Sports in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to sports development by announcing the hosting of the National Intermediate Games, Eko 2026. He stated that the Games will serve as a milestone in the state’s sporting journey and a strategic initiative to nurture young athletes across Nigeria.

During the inauguration of 44 chairmen of sports associations in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu explained that the multi-sport event would provide a platform for emerging talents to gain recognition and begin their journey toward excellence. He pledged to inspect ongoing renovations of sporting facilities in preparation for Eko 2026.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for a seamless pathway from schools to competitions and urged the chairmen to focus on grassroots development and inclusivity. He described sports as a vehicle for discipline, education, and economic growth, highlighting that major events like Eko 2026 would create opportunities across various sectors.

The Governor also called for transparency and accountability in sports administration.
