Lagos Reports 8,692 Cases of Domestic and Sexual Violence in One Year - Government's Zero-Tolerance Stance

Lagos State Government revealed 8,692 cases of domestic and sexual violence reported between August 2024 and July 2025, with domestic violence alone accounting for a significant portion. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro SAN, emphasized the government's zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence during a press briefing marking the 2025 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The state secured 140 convictions and obtained six restraining orders during this period. The cases included defilement, child assault, rape, sexual harassment, and more.

Survivors received counseling and legal representation, highlighting the prevalence of gender-based violence across all age groups in Lagos.
