Lagos Resumes Monthly Environmental Sanitation in 2026

The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which will take place on the last Saturday of every month, starting April 25, 2026. This initiative was previously halted in November 2016 following a Federal High Court ruling by Justice Moham Idri, which deemed the restriction of movement during sanitation hours unconstitutional.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has urged residents to participate actively by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage channels in front of their homes, and disposing of waste properly. The exercise is positioned as a civic responsibility and a vital part of the commitment to a cleaner and healthier Lagos, particularly in enhancing flood resilience.

The sanitation will occur from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, during which residents are encouraged to engage in these activities.
