Lagos Taskforce Defends BRT Enforcement, Sanitation Plans

The Lagos State Environment Sanitation Special Offences Unit, under the leadership of Chairman Adetayo Akerel, has defended its enforcement activities across the state, particularly concerning the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. During a media briefing held at the Multi-Agency Safety Arena in Bolad Oshodi, Akerel announced the resumption of monthly environmental sanitation exercises, set to begin in April 2026, as part of efforts to enhance public health and urban cleanliness.

He addressed public concerns regarding the enforcement of regulations in the BRT corridor, emphasizing the agency's primary mandate to ensure environmental safety. Akerel clarified that the taskforce's interventions are aimed at maintaining order and addressing allegations of misconduct by officials, which he dismissed as false.

He also warned against attempts to manipulate enforcement processes for personal gain and reiterated the agency's commitment to transparency and public engagement. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu supports the initiative to improve sanitation across the state.
