Lagos Resumes Monthly Environmental Sanitation After 10 Years

The Lagos State Government has reinstated its monthly environmental sanitation exercise after a suspension of nearly a decade, which began in 2016 due to a court ruling that deemed the restriction of movement during the exercise unconstitutional. The first sanitation exercise since the resumption occurred on March 14, 2026, and is scheduled to take place every last Saturday of the month from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, a reduction from the previous three-hour duration of 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

During this period, movement will be regulated to enable residents to conduct thorough cleaning of their homes and surrounding areas, including drainage channels. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, clarified that the program aims to enhance community cleanliness and environmental health.

The next exercise is set for April 25, 2026, following the official flag-off along the Mushin-Agege motor road corridor.
