Lagos to Decommission Olusosun and Solous 3 Dump Sites in 18 Months

Lagos State Government has announced plans to decommission the Olusosun landfill and Solous 3 dumpsite within the next 18 months. Tokunbo Wahab of the Commission for the Environment and Water Resources disclosed this during an inspection of the facilities in Ojota and Igando areas.

The government assures residents that newly proposed waste disposal sites will be developed with strict environmental safeguards to prevent health risks to neighboring communities. The decommissioning process will follow global standards, with the first step being the closure of the Olusosun site and the subsequent establishment of alternative facilities in Ikorodu, Badagry, and other areas.

Infrastructure challenges, especially deteriorating access roads, will be addressed as part of the rehabilitation plan.
