Lagos Stakeholders Push for Stronger Lead Poisoning Policies

A three-day workshop organized by Resolve to Save Lives in partnership with the Lagos State Government aimed to address the growing threat of lead poisoning in Lagos State. Dr.

Nanlop Ogburek, Executive Director of Resolve to Save Lives, emphasized the need for a roadmap to eliminate lead from consumer products and water sources. Lead exposure, particularly from mining activities and industrial waste, poses severe health risks, especially to children and women.

Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, highlighted the commitment of the state to protect residents through evidence-based interventions and stronger policies.

The workshop also documented stakeholder contributions to ensure effective lead prevention and control. Afolabi Solebo, General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, warned that no safe level of lead exposure has been identified, stressing the importance of regulating traditional medicines and food items to prevent contamination.
