Lagos State Offers Free Transport to Police Officers

On September 9, 2026, the Lagos State Government introduced a complimentary transportation scheme for police officers, distributing 2,000 Cowry Cards to facilitate their daily commuting. This initiative allows participating officers three months of unlimited free transport across the Lagos state integrated public transportation network, which includes the Blue Line and Red Line rail services, Electric Water Boats, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.

AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, representing IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, received the Cowry Cards on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force.

The program, part of the third anniversary celebrations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail, aims to alleviate financial pressures on police officers and boost morale. AIG Akpanudom expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the initiative and noted a proposed 50% fare discount for police officers after the initial three-month period.

He also acknowledged ongoing support for police welfare through various interventions, including healthcare and financial empowerment.
