Lagos State Government Launches Eco-Circulate Initiative in Ojokoro to Promote Sustainable Waste Management

The Lagos State Government, through the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change, launched the Eco-Circulate Initiative in Ojokoro on February 28. The initiative, coordinated by Mr.

Titilayo Oshodi, aims to deepen grassroots participation in environmental sustainability programs. Residents are encouraged to bring recyclable materials such as plastic, metal, textiles, and paper in exchange for incentives like cash, airtime, data, and food items.

The program targets 8,000 residents directly and aims to reach 50,000 others through outreach activities. By diverting recyclable materials from landfills and waterways, the initiative has reportedly collected and processed 40,000 tons of recyclable waste, contributing to reduced carbon emissions.

The program also includes a climate literacy segment for children to instill climate-conscious habits from a young age. The initiative is part of the state government's plan to strengthen recycling infrastructure and raise environmental awareness in underserved communities.
