Lagos Task Force Addresses BRT Enforcement Misunderstandings

Mr. Adetayo Akerel, chairman of the Lagos State Environment Special Offence Unit, held a quarterly media parley at the unit's headquarters in Oshodi on Tuesday.

He reassured the public of the agency's commitment to safety and traffic order, while warning against false media reports. Akerel noted that some media outlets incorrectly conflated the task force's activities with government agency operations, which do not benefit the larger Lagos population.

He addressed a recent controversy surrounding a video circulating on online television platforms, which claimed that task force officials hijacked a vehicle. Akerel confirmed that the video was misleading and showed a vehicle being impounded for driving against traffic.

He emphasized that the task force operates within the law and does not act against individual interests. Additionally, he announced the resumption of the state’s monthly voluntary sanitation exercise in April to improve public health.
