Lagos to Phase Out "Korope" Buses from Major Highways for Improved Transport Safety

The Lagos State government has announced a plan to gradually remove small commercial buses, commonly known as "korope," from major highways to enhance public transport safety and efficiency. This decision follows stakeholder meetings ahead of the launch of the Lekki EP Bus Reform Scheme scheduled to commence operations on December 8, 2025.

The reform aims to introduce exclusive and fully regulated bus services along major transport corridors, including Ajah, Marina, Obalende, Oshodi, Berger, and Iyana Ipaja. The initiative will involve reassigning feeder community routes and implementing a new structure for regulated bus operations, with drivers required to wear official ministry-issued identification stickers.
