Lagos Deputy Governor Calls Traffic a Creative Lifestyle

Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, stated that the traffic challenges in Lagos should be viewed as a lifestyle rather than a problem. He made these remarks on Saturday at Podfest Naija, a gathering for storytellers and creatives.

Hamzat noted that the traffic situation has shaped Lagos' identity and has even benefited the podcast industry, as many Lagosians listen to episodes while commuting. He encouraged creatives to celebrate the traffic, asserting that it has inspired artists, writers, and filmmakers.

Hamzat also urged the creative community to develop sustainable business models, emphasizing that audience size alone does not ensure commercial viability. He mentioned that Lagos is supporting around 90 research and development projects to foster innovation.

Additionally, he highlighted the importance of safety and liberty for creativity, declaring Lagos as the safest state in Nigeria. Hamzat called for a reconnection with cultural identity as vital for the country's prosperity.
