Hamzat Promises Decentralized Governance for Lagos

Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the Lagos governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and current deputy governor, has pledged to decentralize government services if elected. During engagements with stakeholders in Ikorodu and Muslim community leaders, he outlined plans to develop the economic potential of Lagos's five divisions: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe.

Hamzat proposed establishing mini-secretariats in Ikorodu, Badagry, and Epe to improve access to government services, reducing the need for residents to travel to Alausa for routine business. He solicited support from the Muslim community, led by Chief Imam Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, and received prayers for his success.

Hamzat also called for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027. He emphasized the importance of a development strategy that recognizes each division's economic strengths and proposed reforms in local government administration to enhance accountability and address issues like ghost workers.

Additionally, he advocated for an integrated transportation network in Lagos.
