Lagos Urges Relocation Near Collapsed School Building

The Lagos State Building Control Agency has issued a statement urging residents living close to a collapsed three-storey building on Adu Street in the Aguda area of Lagos State to temporarily relocate. This precautionary measure is necessary to conduct safety assessments following the collapse that occurred on Monday, which injured several students who were evacuated from the building housing the Yemco Daycare Nursery and Primary Comprehensive College.

Adu Ademuyiwa, the agency's Director of Public Affairs, confirmed that no casualties were recorded among the students or staff during the incident. The building reportedly caved in around 11 AM while students were engaged in school activities.

Preliminary observations suggest that ongoing construction activities may have contributed to the collapse. A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The agency has reiterated the importance of property owners adhering to regulatory procedures to maintain safety standards in the community.
