Seven Soldiers Killed in Sokoto Terrorist Ambush

On Saturday, a tragic ambush by Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto State resulted in the deaths of seven soldiers. The incident occurred near Runji Village, approximately 10 kilometers from Illela town, as the soldiers were returning from a successful military operation against a terrorist camp.

The soldiers had launched an assault on the Lakurawa hideout, inflicting significant casualties on the armed group. However, trouble arose when one of the military vehicles developed a mechanical fault, forcing the soldiers to stop for repairs.

Taking advantage of this situation, the terrorists, reportedly on 30 motorcycles and armed with heavy weaponry, launched an ambush. The soldiers engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire, but ultimately, seven soldiers were killed.

Local sources confirmed the recovery of the bodies, and a senior military officer indicated that among the deceased was a lieutenant. The Sokoto State Police Command's spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa, declined to comment on the incident, while military officials stated that the identities of the fallen soldiers would not be released until their families were notified.
