LAMATA Addresses TikToker's Claims on Bus Shortages

The Lagos State Government's Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has responded to allegations of harassment involving TikTok content creator Darkskinnedella, who documented her experiences with long wait times for buses. Kolawole Ojelabi, the head of corporate communications at LAMATA, clarified that there was no confrontation, emphasizing that filming individuals without consent is discouraged under privacy laws.

Darkskinnedella's viral video highlighted her two-hour wait for a bus on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which is designed to provide dedicated lanes and lower fares compared to commercial buses. LAMATA acknowledged the ongoing bus shortages along the Ikorodu corridor, stating that specific numbers of buses are assigned daily, and delays reflect operational realities rather than a shortage of buses.

The agency also denied claims that chartering buses for private events contributes to morning congestion. LAMATA is collaborating with private operators to expand the fleet and improve service.
