Sule Lamido's N1.35bn Fraud Trial Delayed Again

The trial of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, regarding an alleged N1.35 billion fraud, faced a new delay on Tuesday as the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned proceedings due to the absence of lead defence counsel Joe Agi (SAN). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 37-count charge against them, accusing them of money laundering, receiving kickbacks, and awarding fictitious contracts during Lamido's governorship from 2007 to 2015.

During the proceedings, O.F. Ekegba, a member of the defence team, informed the court that Agi had traveled to Germany with the case file for a meeting with a witness.

The EFCC's counsel, Chile Okoroma (SAN), noted that they had only received the defence's affidavit of facts that morning and were not prepared to respond immediately. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu subsequently adjourned the case to a date in September 2026.

This postponement follows a previous adjournment due to Agi's medical condition requiring surgery.
