LASEPA Reopens Six Steel Firms After Compliance Checks

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has reopened six iron and steel manufacturing companies in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, after they improved their environmental compliance. The companies—African Steel Mills Limited, Pulkit Alloy & Steel Limited, LandCraft Industries Ltd, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Limited, Gemini Steel Nigeria Limited, and Top Steel Nigeria Limited—were closed due to serious pollution-related infractions.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, stated that a comprehensive assessment confirmed the companies had taken necessary corrective measures.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, committing the firms to comply with environmental laws and implement corrective measures. The enforcement action was initiated after LASEPA's air quality monitoring detected high pollution levels in the Odogunyan Industrial Corridor.

Conditions for continued operations include installing efficient filtration systems and proper waste management. Continuous monitoring and enforcement are emphasized to protect public health and the environment.
