LASTMA Arrests Tanker Driver for Fatal Hit-and-Run

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrested a tanker driver who allegedly fled after fatally knocking down a commercial delivery motorcycle rider on Kodesho Road, opposite Mrs Filling Station, in the Maryland-Ikeja area of Lagos. The incident involved a fully laden tanker carrying 33-litre groundnut oil, with registration number T-19089LA.
The crash resulted in the instantaneous death of the delivery rider. The driver reportedly attempted to escape without assisting the victim or notifying authorities.
LASTMA officers pursued and intercepted the fleeing vehicle, apprehending the driver before he could escape. The driver and the tanker were handed over to the State Traffic Department, Area ‘F’ Police Command, Ikeja, for investigation and prosecution.
LASTMA secured the accident scene and coordinated emergency response efforts. General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki described the crash as “heartbreaking and avoidable,” urging operators of heavy vehicles to adhere to traffic regulations and warning against reckless driving and fleeing accident scenes.
