"Black Market Premieres in Lagos, Aims for World Record"

"Black Market," a new Nollywood crime thriller featuring Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, is set to premiere on September 26 at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. The premiere will attempt to break an 11-year-old world record for the largest attendance at a film screening in one location, aiming to gather 50,000 attendees.

The current record is 43,624, established in October 2015 in the Philippines. The film, produced by Rixel Studios in partnership with FilmOne Entertainment and Signet Ring Studios, revolves around a group involved in a cross-border smuggling operation, addressing themes of survival and loyalty.

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, who co-wrote the script with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, the film features an ensemble cast, including Itele D Icon, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, and Uzor Arukwe. Gimsay, founder of Hello July Films, has previously written for several Nigerian television titles and this marks her second feature film as writer and director.

The premiere has attracted corporate partners like MTN and Puma, highlighting the logistical scale of the event.
