Lawan Camp Dismisses Kafayos' Disqualification Claims

The media office of Senator Ahmad Lawan has refuted claims made by Hon. Hassan Hussaini Kafayos regarding his disqualification from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Yobe North Senatorial District, labeling them as “unfounded.” In a press statement issued on Monday and signed by Ezrel Tabiowo, Media Adviser to Senator Lawan, the camp sought to clarify misrepresentations following Kafayos' press conference.

The statement pointed out that Kafayos acknowledged the matter is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction, thus sub judice, and questioned his decision to hold a press conference on the issue. It further criticized Kafayos for attributing his disqualification to Senator Lawan personally, stating that such decisions are made by the political party in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The statement also referenced Senator Lawan's electoral success in the 2023 general elections, where he secured 91,318 votes, defeating his PDP challenger, who garnered 22,849 votes.
