Kano Lawmaker Joins NDC After Losing Return Ticket

A lawmaker representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the Kano State Assembly has defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after losing his return ticket. The lawmaker, Hon Kabiru Sani Auwwal, was welcomed into the NDC by its leader, former Kano State Governor Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, during a reception in Abuja on Thursday.

Kwankwaso described the defection as a significant boost to the party's grassroots strength in Kano State. The defection follows a series of political shifts, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's earlier departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The recent ruling by the Federal High Court, which opened the door for defections, has led to a mass exodus from the APC, with other notable figures like Malam Mahadi Isa Umar also joining the NDC. The spokesperson for the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, indicated that more defections from the APC are expected.
